Understanding Detox

Understanding Detox… Basically, detoxification is the process of removing the existing toxins from the body, minimizing the incoming toxins and maximizing the body’s ability to cleanse itself. The body is very much able to cleanse itself without help, but the excessive amount of toxins in the environment (smog, pesticides, etc.) as well as those contributed by one’s unhealthy lifestyle (alcohol, artificial sweeteners, processed food) overburdens it and prevents it from doing the cleansing effectively. Hence, detox is what enhances the body’s own cleaning system. It usually involves fasting.

Detox does not merely involve the elimination of toxins. The process also allows you to bring healthy nutrients into your body. Simply put, you take the bad stuff out and put good stuff in. In doing so, you get to maintain optimum health. Some known benefits of detox cleanse include weight loss, better sleep, lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure, increased energy and minimal hormonal symptoms (for menopausal women).
Do You Need to Detox?

Before you learn how to detox, find out if you are toxic. Just because everybody is doing detox doesn’t mean you should too. However, if you have unhealthy lifestyle habits (like smoking, excessive drinking and drug use), poor diet and a stressful job, you definitely need to know how to detox. Signs you need to consider detox include difficulty in losing weight, unexplained fatigue, bowel problems (either constipated or going all the time), skin irritations and other allergies, and menstrual difficulties, among others.
